Beach Wrestling is promoted by United World Wrestling as a modern sand-based format of wrestling.
Freestyle Wrestling became part of the modern Olympic programme in 1904.
Greco-Roman Wrestling was included at the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896.
Wrestling was included in the ancient Olympic Games in 708 BC and remains one of the oldest known sports.
